Karachi: Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) denies any allegations made by the media, claiming that that PMC has failed to meet the WFME criteria. This was with regard to the decision of the US medical regulators requiring foreign doctors, entering the US in 2024 onwards to be of those that are licensed by regulatory authorities recognized by WFME.
Currently all Pakistani doctors and graduates are able to work and train in the USA, hindrance free. PMC has been working in close coordination with the US medical regulatory authorities including ECFMG and the Federal State Medical Boards (FSMB).
The purpose is to ensure that there is no hindrance in Pakistani doctors and medical graduates being recognized in the USA. In addition to ECFMG and FSMB, the Association of Physicians of Pakistani-descent of North American (APPNA) are also supporting PMC’s recognition by WFME as evidenced by their recent communications with the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Minister for Health.
PMC has initiated the recognition process for WFME after exhaustive preparations and fulfilling all requirements over the last 18 months.
According to the press release, PMC claims all media allegations made by other newspaper and digital media to be incorrect.
PMC has also made it apparent that while the former PMDC had not fulfilled even a single requirement in terms of processes and structures for WFME, the current re introduction of the private bill, may have been a motivating factor for the false media campaigns.
According to PMC, the PMDC bill 2022, as reintroduced in the Parliament, is the malicious intent of those few members of PMDC who had made the institution their personal domain.
PMC believes that the bill, if passed, would undo the immense amount of work done over the last 18 years to re-establish internationally recognized standards in medical education and medical practice. This effort has enabled PMC to finally approach WFME for recognition, such efforts by the institution are being recognized internationally and in Pakistan.
