KARACHI: Irfans Dental Academy (IDA) recently organised a day-long workshop titled ‘Understanding the Dental Implant: What Every Dentist Should Know’ where known experts provided hands-on guidance
and valuable information about dental implants to students and young practitioners.
The speakers and facilitators who conducted the workshop included Dr Abdullah Salman, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon working as an assistant professor at the Baqai Dental College and Dr Umer Bin Irfan, having specialisation in Prosthodontics and a faculty member of the Dow Dental College.
The workshop began with a lecture session, where speakers delve into areas like patient selection, preparation, radiology for osseous evaluation, soft tissue considerations, basics of implant surgery flap design placement closure, overview of bone augmentation procedures, prosthetic aspects of dental implants, including implant-supported removable and fixed denture, screw vs cement retained implants and implant impression techniques.
After the lecture session, Mr Adeel Mehdi from Radiodent 3D gave a brief demonstration on CBCT software and also guided the participants in performing dental implant planning using the software. Later, Dr Abdullah and Dr Umer gave demonstrations on various steps of dental implant placement, allowing the participants to carry out implant placement on goat jaw.
The workshop was attended by a good number of participants belonging to different dental institutes and private clinics of the city, who appreciated Dr Abdullah and Dr Umer for their expertise and dedication towards teaching.
In the end certificates were distributed among the participants by Dr Abdullah Salman and Dr Umer, CEO at the IDA and Managing Director Dr Adil Bin Irfan.
The IDA is planning to conduct the next workshop in August on oral surgery procedures, with Dr Daud Sultan, who is and oral maxillofacial surgeon and an assistant professor at DIIKIOHS.
