KARACHI: Owing to the emergence of potentially more deadly and infectious Omicron strain, Sindh authorities recently stated stricter measures to curb the deadly virus.
Mumtaz Ali Shah, Chief Secretary, Sindh, issued a high alert, directing all departments of the provincial government to take all necessary steps to curb the potential spread of the COVID-19's Omicron variant.
The notification by the Sindh Government directed the authorities to complete all arrangements within ten days in this connection to deal with the new coronavirus variant.
Karachi, Sukkur and Sanghar have been classified by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) as towns with "good vaccination progress", whereas the remaining areas in the province fall under the category with "low vaccination progress".
In the notification, only vaccinated individuals would be allowed to attend indoor and outdoor gatherings, including weddings, and get benefitted and avail the services, including railways, sports, shrines, recreational and other businesses.
A maximum of 500 people would be allowed at indoor events, and a maximum of 1,000 people are permitted at outdoor gatherings in areas with good vaccination progress. In other areas, only 300 people would be allowed for indoor events and 1,000 people for outdoor events.
Public transport can operate with 80 per cent occupancy, and only fully vaccinated individuals can benefit from the service. Wearing masks is made mandatory.
However, all educational institutes and offices will follow 100 per cent attendance.
