Anti-Quackery Team on Mission Clean Sweep in Karachi

Karachi - An anti-quackery team of Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC), recently, conducted various raids against quacks, in the Clifton area of Karachi, in collaboration with District Health Officer (DHO) and law enforcement agencies.
The team paid a supervise visit to KKT Orthopedic Hospital after receiving several complaints. It was observed that unregistered treatment methods were being practiced in this hospital while its employees were not legitimately authorized to perform such services. The staff failed to provide authentic documents, registration or certificates and legal licenses to team when asked to provide.

No orthopedic surgeon and X-Ray technician was available in the hospital during the visit. In the facility, skin patients had been receiving treatment from dentists, while physiotherapists had been operating ultrasounds machines.

The team was led by Director Anti-Quackery Directorate, Director Complaints, Deputy Director Anti-Quackery, Deputy Director Clinical, Focal Person DHO South and Assistant Anti-Quackery.

It was learned that the city dignitaries used to visit KKT Orthopedic for treatment in the past.

The anti-quackery team paid visits to several clinics in Badar Commercial areas of Defense and even sealed a laboratory.

On the first day of the drive, Sindh Health Care Commission had conducted wide-ranging raids in district South of the cosmopolitan city and shut down four illegal clinics in Saddar. The anti-quackery team paid surprise visits to 17 healthcare establishments out of which four were sealed on the spot while notices were served to six others. The verification of documents of seven others were found satisfactory.
