WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY - THE CELEBRATION BEGINS

In 2007, FDI World Dental Federation launched the largest global awareness campaign on oral health. This campaign - World Oral Health Day (WOHD) - is celebrated each year on 20th March to raise awareness across the planet for the prevention and control of oral diseases.

In a world where 90% of the population will suffer from oral disease during their lifetime, WOHD is the chief occasion for people to unite and shine a spotlight on the huge burden caused by oral disease. This event inspires the general public, oral health professionals and policymakers to take action in their own countries to improve the oral health of its citizens.

In Pakistan, this immensely important occasion will be celebrated over the span of March. The mission is to

  • Spread knowledge about healthy oral hygiene practices to the general public

  • Generate awareness regarding the numerous oral diseases our country is burdened by, and

  • Demonstrate the importance and countless benefits of good oral health.

This is why Dental News, in collaboration with Pakistan Dental Association, has arranged an entire month of nationwide activities to mark World Oral Health Day 2017 in Pakistan. We are backed by our partner associations FDI, JPDA, and DTI and our sponsor Shield Corporation Pakistan.

This year’s campaign : Live Mouth Smart

‘Live Mouth Smart’ means making smart decisions throughout life such as practicing good oral hygiene habits, avoiding dangerous risk factors and having regular dental checkups.

The aim is to empower people to take control of their oral health so that they can enjoy a healthy, functional mouth from childhood till old age.

People need to realize the many, many consequences of oral disease, and how poor oral health affects not only your smile, but your general health and well-being as well. Oral disease also impacts various aspects of a person’s social life.

Take the first step to improving your oral health today.

Get a check-up from any dental university hospital or dental clinic across Pakistan. Find out your oral health status. Treat the oral diseases you have right now, and prevent future ones from occurring.

With your help, by the end of this month all of Pakistan will have a wider, brighter smile.
