KARACHI: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry (HCMD) recently arranged an interactive session to celebrate "International Dentist Day". Martin Dow sponsored the event.
Prof. Dr Syed Imran Hassan, Principal, HCMD, was the chief guest. Dr Saima Asim and Dr Shikoh Naz supervised the session.
Dr Saima and Dr Shikoh addressed the audience that this day is established to show appreciation and thanks for dentists. It's also a way to bring awareness to dentistry so that people will know more about how to care for their teeth. It also encourages people who may have avoided going to the dentist to come in for a checkup.
Dr Syed Muzamil Ali Shah, Head of Community & Preventive Dentistry Department, HCMD, was also present to share the day's importance. He stated, "Unfortunately, Dentistry in Pakistan has never gained much recognition. It remains under the shadow of the medical profession. Professional and dedicated leadership should take up the cause of this important discipline and convince the health planner of its usefulness and importance."
Dr Imran Hassan appreciated the efforts of the department to celebrate "International Dentist Day" and involve students in educational and learning activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, professional performance and relationships with the professional community.
Dr Mudassir Aslam concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
