FDA recommends monitoring babies, children's thyroid functions after iodine exposure

MARYLAND, United States: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently recommended thyroid function monitoring in babies and young children who receive iodine-containing contrast media injections for medical imaging.

 In a letter to healthcare professionals, the FDA, a federal agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services, recommended that newborns and children under the age of three should have thyroid monitoring within three weeks of receiving iodine-containing contrast media injections for X-rays and other medical imaging procedures.
