Dubai - June : Asia Pacific Dental Federation organized their 36th Annual Asia Pacific Dental Congress (APDC) at the Dubai World Trade Center, U.A.E. Asia Pacific Dental Federation (APDF) officially formed in 1955, presently a federation comprising of 27 countries, is the official organization in Asia working for the uplift of oral and dental health. The Annual 36th APDC was a successful event that provided excellent opportunities for the professionals and students to meet interact and exchange their knowledge. The event gathered dentists from different countries with the highest number of foreign delegates from Pakistan, majority being members of Pakistan Dental Community. President PDC, Dr. Syed Muhammad Faizan and Dr. Sumera Hashmani gave presentations, well received by the attendees, including the top officials of APDF, in a seminar organized by the Public Dental Health Commission on “Green Dentistry”. The two speakers were awarded with shields by Secretary General APDF, Dr. Oliver Hennedige. Members of PDC, Dr. Muhammad Hasan and Dr. Amtul Anum also presented their researches at the congress, while four PDC members; Dr. Usman Rehman, Sara Ikram Khan, Dr. Sumera Hashmani and Dr. Syed Muhammad Faizan contributed articles in a special edition of APDF Public Dental Health Commission’s Oral Health Review 2014 on Green Dentistry. Among other moments of pride for Pakistan, 3 contesting candidates at the Asia Pacific Dental Congress, Dr. Asif Arain and Dr. Anwar Saeed won seats as the Vice President and Chairman Public Health respectively, whereas Dr. Mahmood Shah became the new Chairman of Oral Disease Commission. In a meeting with President PDC, Dr. Syed Muhammad Faizan, President FDI Dr. Tin Chun Wong expressed that she was highly impressed by the continued presence of huge PDC delegations from Pakistan at the international stage. Among other things, she was particularly happy to know of PDC Foundation's outreach programs which show PDC's commitment to the uplift of Oral Health status of the all members of society, especially the underprivileged. Dr. Ayesha Sultan Alsuwaidi, the newly elected President of Asia Pacific Dental Federation, lauded the efforts of the PDC’s huge delegation which not only contributed significantly to the success of the conference, but also highlighted Pakistan in positive light.
