KARACHI: The Department of Health Professions and Education (DHPE) at Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD), in its continuing efforts to level up its teaching faculty and familiarise them with the basics of medical education, held a workshop on formulating SMART learning objectives.
Faculty members from basic and clinical dental sciences attended the workshop. The session was facilitated by Dr Yusra Nasir, Incharge DHPE, Prof.Abdul Malik, Professor Neurology and Registrar College of Medicine, LCMD and Dr Sadaf Mashood, Head of Oral Biology Department, LCMD.
The facilitators walked the participants through the basics of skills in health profession education and how to classify objectives based on bloom’s domains and miller’s pyramid. Step by step technique for formulating SMART learning objectives separately for each domain, i.e., cognitive, psychomotor and affective, was delivered to the participants along with hands-on tasks assigned in groups.
At the end of the workshop, an activity was conducted whereby the participants developed learning objectives for each domain and presented them to the larger group.
A list of action verbs was provided to the participants for future reference in constructing learning objectives for the department’s study guide and MCQs development.
