KARACHI: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry at University College of Dentistry (UCD), in collaboration with the Fire and Safety Department, University of Lahore (UOL), hosted a series of workshops at UCD for students, faculty members and the staff.

The purpose of these workshops was to give a hand on training and real-world knowledge on how to prevent fire and other accidents from occurring at the workplace or any other place.

The workshops included an interactive presentation which informed the participants about possible causes of fire hazards in the workplace, how to handle electrical equipment to avoid these hazards, how to use fire extinguishers, how to exit the premises in case of fire and further details on the same topic.

The presentation included videos to provide a better understanding of the preventive measures to be taken to avoid and avert possible fire-related accidents.

The presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session in which the faculty members and students inquired about the real-life scenarios and how to deal with them. This was followed by a hands-on session where a controlled fire was lit by the members of the fire safety department, and they used fire extinguishers to put it out. This exercise was repeated with the participants putting out the fire as well. This led to a better understanding of how to tackle different fire hazard scenarios with the equipment at hand.

Prof. Dr Riaz Ahmed Warraich, Principal UCD, lauded the faculty members and the department for conducting a fruitful session.
