LAHORE- "The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences (IADS) at the Boulevard Dental Practice, Lahore recently concluded its 5th long course titled: “Art and Science of Periodontology & Dental Implantology”. This is a six month, six session hands-on course, that is offered to practicing dentists once a year.
Team IADS includes Program Directors, Dr. Bilal A Shaikh and Professor Dr. Khurram Ataullah, with course Facilitators, Dr. Ali Raza Syed and Dr. Zubair Ahmed Khan, and course coordinator Dr Muhammad Atif. Guest speakers during the sessions included Professor Dr. Abid Ashar (Vice Principal FMHCM&D), Professor Dr. Kashif Ikram (Principal Baqai Dental College), and Dr. Munis Mukhtar (AIC Centre Karachi).
Forty candidates participated in this course from all over Pakistan including General Dental Practitioners, Post-Graduate Residents and House-Officers. They were divided in to two batches of twenty participants each. Separate didactic, hands-on and clinical sessions were conducted for each batch.
The candidates performed surgical and prosthetic hands-on workshop on various Dental Implant Systems, including; DIO, Osstem, Neobiotech and Infinity. They performed live surgeries and implants related prosthetic procedures on patients. Soft and hard tissue surgical procedures including; connective tissue grafts and open & closed sinus lift were performed on goat heads. In addition, Professor Abid Ashar conducted a session on local anesthesia in dental surgery and workshop on suturing techniques.
Renowned academician and Periodontist Professor Dr. B J Zulqurnain was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. He highlighted the importance of continuing dental education and greatly admired the contribution of Institute Of Advanced Dental Sciences towards this cause. He also advised the graduating dentists to continue attending such activities to keep themselves updated with the changes in dentistry. Certificates of participation were presented by Professor Zulqarnain, Professor Abid Ashar and Professor Kashif Ikram. Professor Zulqarnain also presented shields and certificates of appreciation to Professor Abid and Professor Kashif for their invaluable contributions to the course. Professor Abid advised the participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the course to their clinical practice so as to prevent knowledge decay and reinforce their skills.
Dr Bilal A Shaikh presented special shields to Mr Idrees Qadri (DIO implants & Glowpak International), Dr Munis Mukhtar (Osstem Implants and M&C Dental) and Mr Imran Saleemi (Neobiotech Implants) to acknowledge their unprecedented support for the course in particular, and dental education in general.At the end of the course, certificates were distributed among the candidates."
