KARACHI: The Sindh government recently removed Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi from acting vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi (UoK) and replaced him with Dr Nasira Khatoon, the university's senior-most professor.
According to a notification issued by the universities and boards department on February 28, "In compliance with the order passed by the Honourable High Court of Sindh, Karachi, dated 26.01.2022, Prof Dr Nasira Khatoon, Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Karachi, is hereby appointed as acting Vice-Chancellor, as an interim arrangement, until further orders."
The SHC wrote on January 26," Before parting with this order, we have noticed that serious allegations have been levelled against the current Acting Vice-Chancellor of the respondent university, as discussed in the preceding paragraphs. Therefore, we deem it appropriate to direct the respondent university to forward the names of ten senior-most professors according to the seniority list maintained by the respondent university to be placed before the worthy Chief Minister, Sindh, to nominate one senior-most professor in BPS-22, who shall be notified as to the acting Vice-Chancellor in the intervening period."
