KARACHI: The city's biggest COVID-19 vaccination centre, Expo Centre, recently got shut down, as its paramedic staff and data operators announced a strike for not getting their salaries.
Sindh Health Department had hired doctors, nurses, and data operators at the Expo Centre for the vaccination campaign and paid them on a contractual basis. The vaccination campaign at Expo Centre, Karachi, carried out up to 30,000 vaccinations per day and stayed open 24 hours.
The Expo Centre's staff sought a strike as the government didn't pay them in over eight months. After the strike, many people were sent back home. Most of them were waiting for their COVID's vaccine second dose.
One of the protestors at the premises said whenever they had protested earlier, the health department shut their mouth with fake promises, but they would not stay quiet then.
