ISLAMABAD: Dr Nadeem Jan, the Minister for Health Services, has issued a warning to the public, urging them to remain vigilant against the spread of viral infections and assuring them that the government is striving to control the outbreak of diseases in the country, adding a committee of experts has been formed to address the issue.
Speaking to the media, Dr Nadeem Jan stated that government-run hospitals are currently on high alert to handle cases of conjunctivitis and vector-borne diseases like the dengue virus.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining good hygiene, which includes regular hand washing and avoiding touching the eyes with unwashed hands. Infected individuals were advised to follow strict practices, such as keeping their personal items like towels and toiletries separate from others.
The minister noted that conjunctivitis is spreading rapidly in Punjab, with hundreds of patients seeking medical attention daily due to this viral infection. He expressed confidence that through collective efforts and a coordinated strategy, the government can control the scourge of the dengue virus and eye infections, even though it is a challenging task.
Responding to a query, the minister mentioned that special dengue counters have been set up in hospitals to provide the best treatment to patients. He stressed the importance of awareness in controlling the disease, urging all stakeholders to continue their efforts in the fight against dengue.
Regarding the government's commitment to eradicating polio from the country, Dr Jan stated that a comprehensive strategy is in progress, and all available resources will be utilized for this purpose.
He highlighted that repeated immunisations are essential to protect millions of children from polio, enabling most countries worldwide to become polio-free, with only two endemic countries remaining.
In response to another question, the minister affirmed the government's dedication to improving the quality of healthcare infrastructure for national development. He pledged that the government would address the issue of quackery and counterfeit medicines within the healthcare system.
