KARACHI: The Karachi city district administration recently imposed a micro-smart lockdown in Gulshan-e-Iqbal for two weeks after the emergence of 11 cases of the new COVID-19 strain in the area.
Eleven members residing in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7 Karachi's District East tested positive for the Omicron variant. The local administration then decided to inflict the lockdown, as per the notice issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Karachi, East.
The lockdown will remain effective till Jan 14 and has been imposed in the houses and streets of the specified area.
According to the notification, only grocery shops, bakeries, and pharmacies should remain open in the area during the specified timings. Moreover, the movement of the residents will also be restricted, and all types of gatherings, public transport and pillion riding will be banned in the area for two weeks, it reads.
The notice said that only one household person would be allowed outside to buy food items and medicines by displaying original CNIC to the law enforcement agencies.
