KMDC suspends 24 staffers on graft charges

KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar recently suspended 24 employees of Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) in the light of an inquiry committee report against them.

He had formed a three-member committee after the college principal sent him a report regarding misappropriation in the head of the salary. The committee in its report had found 24 employees and officers guilty and on the basis of the report, they were suspended. Further investigation is underway.

Director Finance, Rafi Murshid Khan, Deputy Director Finance, Rizwan ul Hug, Audit Officer Finance, Bilal Mirza and Assistant Director Finance, Ateeg Ahmed were amongst the 24 suspended employees.

The committee conducted an impartial inquiry and sent report to the mayor. The salaries, pensions and provident fund would be revoked if the employees are found responsible after final investigation. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation spokesman said that KMDC was an independent institution and had a governing body which was fully empowered to take decisions. The mayor is head of the governing body.

The spokesman said that steps were being taken to eradicate corruption and take the responsible persons to task.

He said that the mayor ordered a third-party audit of the college’s income and expenditures during the last 10 years. The spokesman added that other expenditures would also be audited besides salaries.

He said that the mayor directed that the report should be submitted in the governing body’s next meeting.

Moosa, General Driver, M. Musharraf, Driver, Waheed Ahmed, General Servant, Naveed Jahangir, Assistant, Nabeel Zaman, Record Sorter, M. Umar, General Clerk, M. Ali Qureshi, General Operator, Arif Ali, Driver, Waqar Ahmed, Assistant, Syed Zahid Ali, Senior Clerk, Naveed Ahmed Khan, Lab Attendant, M. Idrees, Computer Operator, Naveed Ahmed, Driver, Ghulam Mustafa and Assistant Arif Ali.
