Lahore: IADSR in collaboration with Department of Oral Health Science, Shaikh Zayed PGMI, organized a workshop on Oral Health & Tobacco. Mr. Shahzad Khan, National Program Manager, Tobacco Control Program of WHO (Pakistan) along with Dr. Sharea Ijaz and Associate Professor Dr. Ayma Syed of IADSR were the facilitators of the workshop. The session focused on the training of the oral health professionals in the tobacco use prevention and cessation. The workshop further elaborated the current situation of the tobacco use world wide with interesting statistics and research taken place globally by WHO and other research agencies.The workshop focused on creating an awareness that measures should be taken by the government at national level to ensure placement of the preventive measures. The lecture also urged that the tobacco companies must be brought further in to the tax net in order to develop a budget for the Oral Health care in Pakistan, as Pakistan stands with the only few remaining countries in the world where a specific oral health care budget does not exist for the prevention of the citizens on a national level. The workshop concluded by an interactive question and answer session which was co facilitated by Prof. Dr. Ayyaz Ali Khan and the workshop facilitators. Click here to view more pictures of the event.
