ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan delivered an uplifting message on Tuesday, underlining that a remarkable 90% of strokes can be prevented through proactive measures. His remarks were made during an event commemorating World Stroke Day, hosted at the Ministry of National Health Services in collaboration with the World Stroke Society.
Dr. Jan stressed the crucial need for coordinated efforts to enhance public awareness about stroke prevention. He assured that the Ministry of Health is fully committed to taking all necessary steps in this direction.
Furthermore, the Minister announced comprehensive preventive measures that will be implemented at both primary and secondary healthcare levels. Paramedical staff and doctors will receive specialized training in various hospitals to effectively address stroke-related ailments.
In addition to these initiatives, Dr. Jan shared that the government is actively pursuing a reform agenda within the healthcare sector, even during its brief tenure. Efforts are underway to strengthen the primary healthcare system, with plans to revamp 460 primary health centers nationwide, thanks to support from the World Health Organization (WHO). Importantly, these improvements will be funded without placing additional burden on the government exchequer.
Highlighting the importance of reducing the pressure on large hospitals, the Minister also advocated for the referral mechanism, demonstrating the government's dedication to enhancing the overall healthcare sector. He urged everyone to contribute to these collective endeavors aimed at improving healthcare throughout the country.
