Workplace exhaustion is also known as 'Job or occupational burnout' is a particular type of work-related stress. It is a state where a person is burdened with different tasks more than his strength. Consequently, it fully drains the physical and emotional stability of a person. In this article, we will see how occupational burnout can affect and some ways to counter it.

That is to say, workplace exhaustion can cause a variety of mental and physical health problems. Thus, people who are struggling with it may find themselves at high risk of workplace exhaustion. If such stress is left unaddressed, consequently will make an individual challenging to cope with the demands of life.

Causes of occupational burnout

By feeling exhausted, you begin to feel less capable of work and start to hate your job. However, these five leading causes can lead to workplace exhaustion.

  1. Unreasonable time pressure. 
  2. Lack of support from upper management. 
  3. Lack of role clarity. 
  4. Unmanageable workload. 
  5. Unfair treatment among employees.  

What are the signs and symptoms of exhaustion?

Certainly, workplace exhaustion is an important issue and must be dealt with immediately. Those who are facing these symptoms must consult a doctor or a mental health provider as soon as possible otherwise it will lead to depression.

Here are some of the most common signs for workplace exhaustion. 

  1. Alienation from work-related activities 
  2. Physical symptoms  
  3. Dizziness or fainting
  4. Insomnia
  5. Shortness of breath
  6. Headaches
  7. Increased illness
  8. Emotional exhaustion Reduced performance

Prevention and treatment

In this section, we will explore the preventive and treatment options for exhaustion. In other words, the term 'exhausted' seems to be a permanent condition, its reversible for an individual who is feeling exhausted. All one has to do is to make some changes in their working environment. Such as:

  • Firstly, set the priority of your goals that what is essential to must get done and what can wait.
  • Secondly, seek support by approaching the supervisors about your problems could be helpful, only if they are genuinely interested in creating a healthier work environment in an organization. 
  • Thirdy, try relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. Moreover, having vacation may offer you some relief as well. 

Furthermore, to manage your, some stress self-care strategies can be implemented, like eating a healthy diet, engaging in healthy sleep habits, and getting plenty of exercises that may help you reduce some of the effects of a high-stress job.
