KARACHI: Dr Saad Khalid Niaz, a renowned gastroenterologist and hepatologist of Pakistan, has recently given his "Tamgha-e-Imtiaz" back to the Government of Pakistan. He gave this honour in protest to the government for failing to honour the services of the healthcare workers in the Pakistan Civil Awards.
Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi declared the Pakistan Civil Awards for 126 people, but only two medical professionals were on the list.
According to Dr Saad, the government failed to honour the services and dedication of health workers who were the real heroes as they serve the ailing humanity in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) have expressed solidarity with Dr Saad on his disappointment and act to return the award.
