ISLAMABAD: A large number of prohibited and conventional syringes were seized in a raid conducted by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) on a factory in Peshawar.

The raid was conducted by a Drap team on the warehouse of M/s Taj Company as part of its countrywide crackdown on such units.

Asim Rauf, Chief Executive Officer of Drap said the crackdown against prohibited and conventional syringes, directed by Minister for Health Dr Nadeem Jan, is underway nationwide. The recent raid resulted in the discovery of a significant quantity of banned conventional syringes at the M/s Taj Company warehouse, which was reportedly involved in the production of both prohibited and conventional syringes.

Rauf stated that this action was prompted by reports of the availability of banned traditional syringes in the market. Pharmaceutical companies have been instructed to manufacture only standard and approved syringes.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused, he added.

He said the health minister is closely monitoring the availability of conventional syringes in the market, emphasising the government's commitment to eradicating fake medicines and ensuring the quality and safety of medical products.

Quoting Dr Jan, he said, "Our mission is to provide quality medical facilities to the people," adding that ongoing efforts are aimed at implementing reforms in the health sector.
