KARACHI: The Department of Dental Education at Bahria University Dental College (BUDC, BUHSCK) recently held a workshop on CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) technology.
The session was facilitated by BUDC Principal Dr. Kashif Naqvi, who is also head of the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Department. House officers from various dental departments and interested faculty members also participated in the workshop.
The session began with an introduction to CBCT and its principles. Dr. Naqvi explained that CBCT is a dental imaging technology that uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam to produce high-quality, 3D images of the teeth, jawbone, and surrounding structures.
He discussed its applications in dentistry, orthodontics, and oral surgery for diagnosing dental problems such as cavities, abscesses, and root fractures.
A hands-on session was then conducted, led by Mr. Adeel Mehdi, a facilitator and representative of Radiodent 3D dental and maxillofacial imaging, explaining the operation of CBCT technology, while Dr. Kashif Naqvi guided the participants on treatment planning using CBCT. This included implant placement, extractions, orthodontic procedures, visualizing the relationship between teeth, bones, and soft tissues, and monitoring treatment progress and outcomes.
The workshop concluded with Dr. Naqvi presenting an appreciation shield to Mr. Mehdi in recognition of his role as the Radiodent 3D imaging facilitator.
The workshop effectively demonstrated how CBCT has revolutionized dental imaging, enabling more precise diagnoses and effective treatments.
