SHC moved against the closure of Dr Arif Alvi’s Clinic

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has received a petition challenging the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) 's sealing of Alvi Dental Clinic.

The SBCA had earlier sealed the clinic, owned by former President Dr. Arif Alvi, citing the violation of residential zoning regulations.

A large SBCA contingent, accompanied by police under the supervision of Assistant Director, carried out the operation. According to an SBCA spokesperson, the clinic was sealed as part of routine action against commercial operations in residential areas. Similar operations, they said, are being conducted across the city.

In response, former President Dr. Arif Alvi's wife, Samina Alvi, and son, Awab Alvi, filed a petition in the SHC against the sealing. A two-judge bench has issued notices to the provincial government, SBCA, and the Sindh Healthcare Commission. The court has sought replies from all parties involved by October 7.

The petition alleges that the sealing of the clinic is politically motivated, claiming no prior notice was given. It further states that the clinic has been operating in the area for a long time and that the action taken against Dr. Alvi is part of political harassment.
