KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed deep concern and condemnation over the shocking attack on Karachi Central Hospital, denouncing the act of violence that has left the entire medical community in a state of shock and distress, and demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
In an official statement, the PMA vehemently condemned the heinous attack and called for immediate action to ensure that justice is served.
The assailants reportedly entered the hospital premises by breaking the main gate between 1 am to 2 am. During the attack, the watchman was brutally tortured, tied with ropes, and valuable items such as computers, laptops, and batteries of the solar system were ransacked. The CCTV system of the hospital was also destroyed.
The PMA expressed dissatisfaction with the indifferent attitude of the area police following the incident, citing hesitancy in filing a First Information Report (FIR), which is the basic right of every victim.
It termed attack not merely an assault on a medical facility but also on the principle of providing healthcare services to the public without fear or prejudice.
The hospital, a PMA project, has been offering services to underprivileged individuals free or at the lowest rates since 2018, distinguishing itself from other private facilities.
Saying that hospitals, as sanctuaries of safety and healing, should be immune to such acts of violence, the PMA underscored that any assault on healthcare infrastructure is an attack on humanity, leading to loss of life and endangering the lives of innocent individuals.
The PMA demanded swift and decisive action from the authorities responsible for maintaining law and order to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the attack. Demanding a thorough investigation, the PMA insisted on holding those responsible accountable for their actions, asserting that this act of violence must not go unpunished under any circumstances.
The PMA reiterated its commitment to upholding the values of peace, compassion, and respect for human life. The association urged the government and society at large to collaborate in eliminating the menace of violence targeting healthcare facilities, using the attack on Karachi Central Hospital as a catalyst for positive change.
