Training helps understand sufferings of fellow human beings: Prof Naqvi By Our Staff Reporter Karachi: The 42nd batch of volunteers trained in the field of medical care and community services by Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) concluded with an impressive certificate distribution ceremony. Under the SIUT’s week-long volunteers programme that has become annual feature students belonging to various educational institutions of the metropolis, including schools and colleges, are imparted training in community services, first aid and emergency medical care. Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the programme, SIUT’s Prof Anwar Naqvi said that the volunteers programme, on the one hand helps youngsters to understand the sufferings of fellow human beings and, on the other hand, brings a healthy change in their outlook, motivating them to become useful citizens of the society. “In fact, the SIUT’s volunteers programme is part its philosophy of providing treatment to the ailing community with honour and dignity,” he said, adding participants of the progremme during their 30 hours training get an opportunity to acquire knowledge of medical sciences, fundamentals of medicine and surgery. Popularity of the SIUT’s volunteers programme could be gauged from the fact that thousands of boys and girls have already received the training, Prof Naqvi added. At the outset, he urged parents to encourage their wards to attend the training programme so that they could render community service in much better way. Later, he gave away certificates among participants of the SIUT’s 42nd volunteers training programme. The ceremony was largely attended by parents and teachers of participating schools and colleges.
