KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh chapter has presented a Charter of Demands (CoD), highlighting issues faced by medics and seeking pay raise for house officers (HOs), postgraduate students (PGS), and medical officers (MOs), besides announcement of dental surgeon seats through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).
Presenting the CoD, YDA Sindh Chairman Dr. Mehboob Noonari, and President Dr. Roshan Chandio, have expressed their readiness to assist the Sindh government in addressing healthcare sector challenges.
At a press conference, Dr. Chandio presented the Charter of Demands to the health department, calling for budgetary relief for healthcare providers and expressing concerns. The YDA Charter of Demands, includes review of deputation policy, the MLO cadre, and seeks pay increases for HOs, PGS, and MOs.
The YDA urged the Sindh Health Department to announce dental surgeon seats through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), MLO and Special Cadre seats, and to formulate deputation policies for PGSs.
It also demanded improved working conditions for healthcare workers and facilities, as well as salary and benefit increases for HOs, PGS, and medical students, besides the improvement and expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the province.
Furthermore, the YDA stressed the need for reforms in medical education and training to meet the evolving healthcare needs. They also called for legal protection for healthcare workers to ensure their safety and well-being at the workplace.
The association also suggested organizing seminars to raise awareness about oral health and community health issues.
The YDA office offered collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to address the challenges facing the healthcare sector in Sindh, calling for immediate dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of both the government and healthcare workers.
