Karachi: Department of Community Dentistry , Baqai Dental College, organized a walk on WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY, Baqai Medical University and also at other Primary Health Care centers, namely, Khuda ki basti,Gharo, FWC Lyari, Baqai Medical Complex, Gharo. This program was carried out under the collaboration with Doctors toothpaste.
The event began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran. Principal, Baqai Dental College Prof. Dr. Kashif Ikram, Vice Principal, Baqai Dental College Dr. Talha M. Siddiqui and HOD Community Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri briefly highlighted the importance of oral hygiene maintenance and its role in prevention of oral diseases.
The walk was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Baqai Medical University, Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai. She thoroughly appreciated the efforts of the department of Community Dentistry, Baqai Dental College.
The BMU students, teaching and non teaching staff participated in this awareness walk. Everyone gathered in front of the administration block, students holding banners and posters containing useful information regarding prevention of oral diseases and the associated risk factors. Dummies of injurious agents, like cigarettes were prepared by the dental students, to aware the participants regarding how these harmful agents lead to chronic diseases of the oral cavity, especially oral cancers.
The walk started from Nishan-e-Manzil point, BMU, with students holding banners that reflected the message of the event. The walk ended at the grave of Late Prof. Dr Fariduddin Baqai, situated beside the Super Highway’s gate. Fatiha Khuwani was performed, where everyone was joined by the students of Salimullah Fehmi School, along with their principal and teaching staff.
