GEORGIA: Dr Amber Bonnaig, a dentist in Georgia, recently asked people to be cautious of following harmful dental hacks, unlisenced influencers have shown on TikTok.
In her article 'Debunking TikTok Dental Hacks' on DentaQuest, Dr Amber warned people of harmful Do It Yourself (DIY) dental hacks shown in TikTok videos.
Dr Bonnaig said those makeshift dental hacks were concerning and sent the wrong message to kids about caring for their teeth. She warned that performing our dental treatments like in those TikTok videos could cause significant and long-lasting damage to our mouth, teeth and overall health.
She advised not to use DIY hydrogen peroxide teeth whitening as it could lead to highly irritating gums and sensitive teeth. She also warned against nail file teeth filing and teeth flossing with hair strands, shown on Tiktok videos, as these hacks lead to irreversible harm.
She apprised people to use DIY dentures of moldable plastic as it could lead to permanent recession, bone loss and pose a choking risk.
