KARACHI-Implants have revolutionized modern dentistry with the way treatments and patient care is planned, managed and executed. A thorough knowledge and clinical training is important to be at par with international trends in dentistry.
An implant workshop was recently organized by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BUMDC and was attended by Vice Admiral (R) Tehseen Ullah Khan HI (M), Principal Dental Section Prof. Dr. Zubair. A Abbasi, Vice Principal Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, all HODs, faculty members and house officers.
Professor Dr. Zubair Ahmed A. Abbasi, Principal Dental section and HOD of the OMFS Department along with Dr. Syed Muhammad Faizan conducted the workshop. The workshop aimed at providing participants with the skills and knowledge needed for successful implant placement followed by a live surgical session on a patient by Dr. Faizan Syed.
Dr. Faizan started the workshop with a comprehensive lecture to familiarize the participants with implants & the steps in implant placement procedures followed by an insightful talk from Prof. Dr. Zubair A Abbasi about the do’s and don’ts of implant dentistry. The lectures focused on proper diagnosis, factors that should be taken inti consideration for planning treatment for implant placement as well as highlighted the commonly encountered problems during and post-implant placement procedure.
After the lectures, a step by step live implant placement procedure was performed by Dr. Syed Muhammad Faizan who guided the participants on selection of proper implant, manipulation of surgical flap, implant placement, tension free surgical closure and suturing technique.
Much appreciation was received by the participants who commented that such workshops should be conducted more often.
At the end of the workshop, Director General BUMDC, Vice Admiral (R) Tehseen Ullah Khan (HIM) along with Prof. Dr. Zubair Principal Dental section presented Dr. Faizan with a shield and appreciated the department’s efforts for arranging a workshop that opened a new chapter by placing the first implant in BUMDC.
