ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) recently made it clear that it would not register students who haven't passed the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2021 as per the criteria set by the regulatory body.
Little earlier, the Sindh cabinet decided to lower the pass percentage of the MDCAT from 65 to 50 for admissions in Sindh's medical and dental colleges to pack all the seats with students from different districts of the province.

Dr Arshad Taqi, President PMC, while responding to Sindh's cabinet decision, said the law and the Supreme Court had laid down the mandatory guidelines for admissions to the medical and dental colleges in the country, and no entity could alter the mandatory criteria. Moreover, the law also mandated the PMC to set the passing marks and declared the result of the MDCAT, he added.

According to him, there are enough students in Sindh who had passed the MDCAT, secured 65 per cent and could be granted admissions to public and private medical and dental colleges in the Sindh province.
