LAHORE: Chairman Drug Court recently investigated the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on the ongoing shortage of Paracetamol medicine in Lahore.

Earlier, a citizen filed a petition seeking legal action against the components involved in the artificial shortage of the medicine. The petitioner argued that the rampant increase in dengue patients had increased the demand for Panadol tablets. Still, it was black marketers that had created artificial shortages which aggravated citizens' sufferings.

At the hearing, DRAP's additional director stated that more than 40 million Panadol tablets were to be made this year. For this purpose, the raw material was provided to a pharma company to make more than 20 million Panadols, but unfortunately, the company only made 1.76 million Panadol.

A private company also provided a report stating that the market faced a shortage of thirty million tablets this year due to a sudden surge in dengue.

However, Rana Naveed, Chairman Drug Court, ordered DRAP to provide a comprehensive report on the shortage of Panadol and adjourned the hearing till December 8.
