Prof. Dr. Nazeer Khan shares health and nutrition tips for Ramazan

Karachi: To have a healthy life proper nutrition diet is highly important but the dieatery patterns can be affected especially in Ramzan. Therefore, it is important to have effective diet plan and routine to stay healthy

Referring to the effects of healthy intake during the holy month of Ramazan, Prof Dr Nazeer Khan, PhD, Professor of Biostatistics at Jinnah Sindh Medical, Advisor to Vice Chancellor (VC) for research and Editor of Journal at Pakistan Dental Association, expressed his views on fasting and nutrition tips for every person including diabetic patients and pregnant women.

He was speaking at live session organized by Dental News Pakistan. The moderator for the event was Dr Muattar Hanif.

“Ramadan can be a good time to make changes [and] to improve the balance of our diet that can be sustained for longer period.

He said that during fasting hours when no food and or drink has been consumed fir longer period, the body would start to use its stored carbohydrates and fats. This would enable the provision of energy to the body. He told that most people who fast during Ramadan experience mild dehydration which may causes tiredness.

While sharing many tips, Dr Nazeer told that it is very important to consume fluid-rich foods and drinks, such as fruits, vegetables, yogurt because it will help in staying hydrated during fast. Moreover, he said consuming lot of deep fried items may actually lead to weight gain.

Dr Nazeer discussed his views and gave various tips on what to eat at iftar, dinner and sahoor. Furthermore, he told the Ramadan diet plan for diabetic patients should not include caffeine or sugary drinks like Cola etc. Not only this, he also gave his views on pregnant women’s that how they can have healthy life.

He also thanked the organizers for arranging such great initiative.
