KARACHI: The BDS curriculum review committee at the Dow University of Health Sciences recently held its fourth meeting chaired by Prof Dr Shahid Shamim, Additional Director, Dow Institute of Health Professional Education.
The members of the curriculum committee included Dean of Dentistry, Prof Shahjahan Katpar, Prof Dr Ambrina Qureshi, Prof Dr Naresh Kumar, Prof Dr Anwar Ali, Prof Dr Farah Naz, Prof Dr Rukhsana Rubeen, Dr Syeda Rubaba Azim, Dr Adnan Anwar Ali, and Dr Syed Jaffar Abbas Zaidi.
A variety of issues were discussed in the meeting ranging from arranging the timetable according to PMDC’s contact hours, self-directed learning for students, horizontal integration of BDS first-year subjects, early patient contact for BDS students, incorporating student feedback in the curriculum, and improving formative assessment.
The Dow University of Health Sciences has taken an unprecedented initiative in bringing curricular reforms in dentistry by developing an integrated socially accountable outcome-based dental curriculum at par with international standards and keeping in view the cultural, economic, and psychosocial factors of health and disease in the local context.
