Dentists demand Govt to create jobs on emergency basis

PESHAWAR: Young Dentists Forum (YDF) has recently expressed concerns over increasing unemployment and demanded of government to create vacancies for 800 jobless dental surgeons in the province on emergency basis.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club recently, YDF president, Dr Fahd Aslam Dawar said that the number of dental surgeons was increasing with a ratio of 560 annually in the province but government had no plan to accommodate them in the public sector hospitals.

Flanked by other-office bearers of YDF including Dr Ihsanullah and Dr Ashfaq, he said that 100 to 150 doctors managed to go abroad for specialisation and the rest had to search jobs but to no avail.

He said that there was no dental surgeon in the health facilities in many districts.

He said about 600 posts of dental surgeons were vacant in public sector peripheries hospitals. He said that dental unit in Ayub Medical Hospital Abbottabad had not been in use for the last about 10 years.

The YDF chief demanded of government to create jobs for the dental surgeons, equip t public sector hospitals with required machinery and take action against quacks to save lives of the people.

"We appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to play their role in appointment of jobless dental surgeons otherwise the doctors will be left with only option to launch protest," said Dr Fahd.
