KARACHI: The Department of Community Dentistry, Baqai Dental College, Baqai Medical University (BMU) recently arranged an educational field trip for second year BDS students to the Baqai Medical Complex, Khuda Ki Basti

Prof. Dr Asghar Ali Shigri, Head of the Community Dentistry Department, BMU, Dr Raza Abidi and Dr Mahwish Bano supervised the educational visit.

The visit's main objective was to bring the students closer to the community and educate and spread awareness about the importance of oral hygiene to unenlightened children.

On arrival, Dr Raza Abidi briefed the dental students about the community-oriented vision of late Prof. Dr Fariduddin Baqai and Prof. Dr Zahida Baqai. Students and faculty were given a visit to the medical centre that consisted of general, gynae and dental OPDs,  laboratory, and Salimullah Fahmi Memorial Primary School (Unit-4). Patients have been treated free of cost at the centre, and students enjoy the great privileges and study free of cost.

After the tour, the students were divided into seven groups and were assigned different classrooms. Each group gave an informative lecture, guiding the school children on the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene and instructing them on the drawbacks of its negligence. The students made it interactive by engaging the children in activities and quizzes.

The trip was completed on a group photo of the faculty and 2nd-year dental students.
