KARACHI: The second-year BDS students of Department of Community Dentistry at Baqai Dental College, led by Head of Department Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri, conducted a field visit to the Baqai Medical Complex in Khuda Ki Basti for.
The students were also accompanied by faculty members Dr. Samreen Shafqat, Dr. Mahwish Bano, and Dr. Raza Abidi.
The field visit aimed to bridge students with the local community, emphasising the importance of maintaining a healthy environment.
Upon arrival, Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri briefed the group on the mission and services of the complex.
The Baqai Medical Complex, founded by Prof. Dr. Fariduddin and Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, serves as a community-centric facility offering outpatient services, a modern diagnostic lab, and a team of skilled technicians.
The complex also includes the Salimullah Fahmi School, where children receive free education, uniforms, and textbooks, supported by the Baqai Foundation. All medical services at the complex are provided free of charge.
After the briefing, BDS students toured the facility and were then divided into groups to conduct interactive sessions for primary school children. They educated the children on the significance of good oral hygiene and the consequences of neglecting dental health.
The sessions included engaging activities and quizzes to maintain the children’s interest. Following the educational sessions, the BDS students performed general dental check-ups for the children.
The visit concluded with a group photograph and a lunch for all participants, marking the end of a successful, educational, and enriching experience for both the students and the community.
