FDI to launch new educational resources for children with cleft anomalies

SWITZERLAND: FDI World Dental Federation has recently joined forces with Smile Train to launch new educational resources for children born with clefts.

Globally, 540 babies have been born with cleft each day. Babies who are born with cleft often struggle to eat, hear, speak, breathe and grow. Good oral health is the right of every child, which is why FDI joined forces with Smile Train to launch new educational resources aimed at improving the lives of children with clefts.

Prof. Ihsane Ben Yahya, President FDI, said, being the oral health professionals, we know the long-term impact of oral diseases could have on the overall health, development and well-being of children and adults".

"By ensuring individuals with cleft receive timely surgery and oral healthcare, we can safeguard their integration into society, give them self-confidence and the potential to succeed in their scholarship", he said.
