KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed its concern over the shifting of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) Office from Saddar, Karachi, to a far-flung area of Clifton. The news of the shift was conveyed through a letter No.018/PMAC/2019, addressed to the then Acting Registrar of the PMDC.

The PMA reiterates its concern and wants the authorities to take note of the hardships being faced by the doctors of Karachi, particularly the doctors of interior Sindh, due to the shifting of the PMDC Office from Saddar to Clifton, Karachi, as Clifton is a distant area of Southern end of the city.

Karachi, being the largest city of Pakistan, is spread over an area of 3780 Km2. A doctor coming from the distant regions of North and East Karachi will have to travel for approximately three hours to reach the PMDC office in Clifton, while a man going by public transport will have to walk for few miles to reach the PMDC.

While these are just the commute issues faced by Karachites, the difficulties faced by doctors coming from Interior Sindh are twice manifold. Moreover, the area is deserted, and many doctors have complained of being involved in incidents of snatching and robbing.

Keeping in view the above-mentioned facts, the PMA has requested the PMDC to rethink their decision of relocation and be more considerate towards the medical fraternity of Karachi and Interior Sindh. The PMA has requested the PMDC to shift their regional office from Clifton to some suitable place in the middle of the Karachi.
