People in number have been rushing to the vaccination centre not because of fear of getting infected but over the government’s deadline to inoculate before their sims got blocked or salaries got withhold.

The crowd in vaccination centres

As per data released by the National Command of Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan touched the milestone of 1 million daily jabs in previous weeks. Thus sprawling scenes of people queued inside and outside the vaccination centres became inevitable.

The federal and respective provincial governments have successfully avoided the health crisis, procuring timely vaccines from its long-lasting friend, China. World Health Organization (WHO) claims for equitable distribution among the states regardless of their financial status. But when it had decided to ramp up the pace of vaccinations, it should have ensured to overlook the arrangement facilities where the influx of people was expected.

Consequences of poor management at vaccination centres

On July, 31st-2021 following the announcement of virtual lockdown by the Sindh government, the people of Karachi flocked in and out of the vaccination centres to see themselves amid the disastrous manifestation of poor management.

According to the media reports, small vaccination staff stationed in hall no 3 at the Expo Centre halted the vaccination process over the non-payment of salaries, causing outrage, which took up the violent turn breaking the glass door and injuring security personnel.

Government's imperfect strategies

Most Pakistanis are frustrated as they want to see this pandemic end. The reason for frustration is apparent as they see the threats of lockdown prevail over their mental nerves, and every time and then, there is news that informs them to be cautious over the start of the 4th wave. In between, the government announces to block CNICs, SIMS. Instead of facilitating them with concessions that encourage vaccination, the government has fallen to low levels of intimidation. People who are already occupied with economic predicament are in the trap of health, money crisis. For the right reasons, they have lost the restraint, but obviously, violence can’t be accepted. What happened at the Expo Centre was a tiny glimpse of the mental decay of our society.
