MUMBAI: India has recently reported the first case of the XE variant, a new coronavirus strain, in Mumbai.

According to the local media, the XE variant has been found in a 50-year-old, South African national woman. She was fully vaccinated and had come to India on February 10 with no prior travel history.

Little earlier, World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning against a new mutant 'XE' variant of Omicron that could be more transmissible than any variant of COVID-19.

'XE', a new COVID-19 variant that is a mutant of two different omicron strains, i.e., BA.1 and BA.2, was first identified in the United Kingdom on January 19 and has now spread worldwide.
