A two-day workshop on endodontics was recently held at the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR). It was conducted as a part of the IADSR 8th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) and was facilitated by Prof Shahid Mahmood, Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the Prince Sattam Bin Abdullah University, KSA. In the first module, he explained manual endodontics in-depth by elaborating and performing different diagnostic tests for endodontic examination. The second module of the workshop consisted of access cavity preparation. The participants were taught the principles and objectives of access cavity preparation along with the steps of its preparations. Participants constructed a pre-endodontic build-up on the given tooth, restored proximal ridges of the tooth and performed access openings as well. In the next module, participants were taught about dimensions, types of different burs used in endodontic procedures along with their recognition, and about the working length of the tooth. Participants performed initial fillings and endodontic procedures by using manual pro taper files. Dr Shahid also explained rotary endodontics, its principles, and demonstrated all the steps, which are followed in the rotary endodontic procedure. Participants performed endodontic therapy of a given tooth using a pro taper universal rotary system. Dr Shahid solved the complications faced by the participant while performing procedures. The interactive two-day workshop was concluded after achieving the desired learning outcomes.
