KARACHI: For the past 3 decades, Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) has been at the forefront of taking the experience of Graduate Convocations to the next level. This year wasn’t any different, as FJDC held a graduate convocation for its 26th Batch.
The event was attended by students, their families, faculty and staff. Dr Amjad Siraj Memon (Vice Chancellor-JSMU) and Dr Syed Yawar Ali Abidi (HOD Operative Dentistry-JSMU) were invited as esteemed guests. The Guest of Honor was Dr Masuma Hasan, the Chairman of Pakistan Institute of International Affairs. She is also the Former Ambassador of Pakistan International Atomic Energy Agency and Former Secretary to the Government of Pakistan.
The event kicked off with introductions and a brief history of the college. This was followed by the long-awaited distribution of degrees, which was conferred by Dr Amjad Siraj to the students. After the degrees were handed over, Dr Yawar was invited on stage to lead the oath-taking ceremony for the students.
FJDC has had the privilege of mentoring exceptional students. A total of 403 distinctions were achieved by the 26th Batch. An award ceremony was then held where students were handed distinction certificates, with the top 3 students receiving medals and cash prizes. The Valedictorian of the 26th Batch was Dr Fatima Asghar, who managed to achieve 15 distinctions. She was awarded 6 gold medals and a cash prize of Rs. 75,000. In her speech, she appreciated the college for mentoring and providing her with a path that helped her achieve excellence throughout her journey. The following is her message to current FJDC students:
‘Work hard and extract as much knowledge as possible from your supervisors and teachers because they are the best of the best’.
The event concluded with speeches from Dr Masuma Hasan and Dr Hussain Askary (Head Community Dentistry & CEO-FJDC), both of whom appreciated the graduating batch on completing their journey, and motivated them to achieve excellence in their next level as well. The convocation was then declared closed, and dinner was served to all those in attendance.
The ceremony was a great success and serves to motivate future students that when they join FJDC, they not only join an academic institute but also join a family with a rich history of personalities and achievements.
