October is a national dental hygiene month, and raising awareness about the importance of oral health is extremely important. Therefore, this month serves as a reminder for everyone to keep smiles healthy in our lives from the very start.

Good dental hygiene is vital for health

Dental ailments can lead to a plethora of medical conditions and diminished quality of life. Gum diseases, which are mild initially but then progress to severe infections and lead to tooth loss, have also linked periodontal diseases to other medical problems, including heart complications.

Cavities are painful tooth decays. Untreated cavities often become painless and cause significant damage to teeth. However, early cavities are more accessible to treat than advanced cases.

Missing or crooked teeth often lead to difficulty in speech and chewing, which lead to expensive replacements.

A reminder to support dental hygiene

October serves as an excellent reminder to follow good oral health and encourage family and inspire children to adopt healthy oral hygiene that lasts a lifetime.

Good dental health is a combination of brushing and flossing daily, along with regular visits to your dental surgeons. Parents should understand the importance and the proper technique for brushing and teach the habits in young children as early as possible.

Brushing your teeth twice a day helps with a reduction in gum disease and battling morning bad breath. So it is generally recommended to brush every morning after breakfast and every night. Using a small amount of toothpaste is necessary for preventing caries. Secondly, flossing helps remove debris that the brush fails to do.

Another thing is a mouthwash that people tend to overuse or consider optional. The mouthwash aims to be used after brushing and flossing to keep the mouth clean. It will also do wonders for your breath.

Awareness of oral and dental health

Due to modern dental technology, most dental diseases, especially in the early stages, can be treated with little discomfort. But prevention and regular visits to dentists always played a primary role in avoiding expensive procedures. Therefore, the purpose of this month is to spread awareness that solid teeth, healthy gums and good breath are fundamentals of oral and overall health.
