SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: The inaugural FDI Sustainability Awards were presented during a session on ‘Sustainability in Dentistry’ at the 2023 World Dental Congress held in Sydney, Australia.

The primary objective of these awards is to promote sustainability in dental practices, honouring the dental professionals for their contribution to reducing dentistry's ecological footprint.

The awards celebrate the professionals who have effectively implemented environmentally conscious initiatives within their dental establishments. This year's awards were given in two categories: Individual and Dental Practice, highlighting the exceptional commitment of the recipients to the sustainability of the dental profession.

In the Individual category, the award was given to Ms Ignacia Vial from Chile, acknowledging her extraordinary dedication to advancing sustainability in dentistry and achievements, including a well-earned CHF 500 prize. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to this sustainability champion and trust that her inspiring efforts will serve as a model for others to emulate,” says the FDI.

In the Dental Practice category, two outstanding winners emerged, each receiving a substantial reward of CHF 1000. The accolades go to Clinica Odontologica Alama/Odontoruteros from Chile and Ars Salutaris from Croatia. “We wholeheartedly congratulate these dental practices for their unwavering commitment to the implementation of sustainable practices, making significant strides toward reducing dentistry's environmental impact,” the FDI says.

FDI extends its commendations to all the winners and nominees for their outstanding contributions to the cause of sustainability in dentistry. “As we celebrate these pioneers, we look forward to a future where eco-conscious practices become the standard in the dental profession, safeguarding our planet for generations to come,” FDI says.
