TAXILA: An oral health awareness seminar was held at the Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology as part of the World Oral Health Day (WOHD) campaign.
The seminar was organised by the Dental College HITEC-Institute of Medical Sciences to raise awareness about oral health, led by the institute head Dr Irfan Shah. It was also attended by Dr Shahreen Zahid Khan, Dr Zuleikha Malik from the Department of Dental Materials.
The seminar included lectures delivered by Dr Shahreen Zahid and Dr Irfan Shah.
Dr Shahreen focused on creating awareness about oral hygiene and the facilities available at the Dental Hospital, HITEC-IMS.
Dr Irfan Shah discussed the prevalence and prevention of oral cancer and the possibility of collaboration between the two institutions in different areas.
On the occasion, a question and answer session was also held where students put queries about various oral health issues, besides treatment and prevention modalities.
The HITEC-IMS team also held a formal meeting with the PAF-IST Rector Prof Dr Mujahid, Biomedical Sciences head Dr Fazal Wahab, and Material Sciences head Dr Aftab.
The meeting focused on strengthening research collaboration between Biomaterials and Biomedical departments, and it was suggested that faculty development courses be also conducted.
It was agreed that the dental college would be open for the faculty and students of PAF-IST for quality and cost-effective dental treatments, and a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would be signed in this regard soon.
The visit also included a general tour of all the laboratories of the biomedical department to evaluate future research prospects.
