White Coat Ceremony at BUMDC

6th BDS Batch (2017-2021) Sworn In


KARACHI - Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC) recently hosted a White Coat Ceremony and Orientation Day as part of their annual tradition of 6th Batch of Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) enrolled for the session of 2017-2021.

The ceremony held in Ibn-e-Sina Auditorium honored by the presence of Vice Admiral Retired Tahseen ullah Khan HI(M)Director General BUMDC, Professor Dr. Wahab Kadri Principal Dental college, Professor Dr. Ambreen Usmani, acting Dean of medical college and Vice Principal, Dr. Kulsoon Fatima Rizvi, Vice Principal Dental college, Surgeon Captain Ghulam Akbar, Deputy Commander PNS Shifa and Surgeon Commodore Syed Raza Jaffer Head of Department of Pathology, Heads of departments, faculty members and students along with their parents attended the white coat ceremony.



The hosts of the ceremony, Dr. Omair Majeed and Dr. Raima Bashir, inaugurated the ceremony with their welcome notes and congratulated the students and their parents to be a part of this esteemed Institution. The ceremony started by the recitation of Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. A video montage was shown to the attendees that highlighted the important events and achievements of BUMDC since it was laid down till date.



Professor Dr. Wahab Kadri Principal Dental Section graced his presence and congratulated the students and emphasizing the indispensable role of a dentist in the medical profession and to serve the community with compassion, honesty and dedication throughout their journey towards a successful and devoted dental professional.


Professor Dr. Ambreen Usmani, acting Dean and Vice Principal of Bahria Medical College, motivated students to study hard andto involve in all academic and co-curricular activities throughout their four years of dentistry. She also encouraged students to pursue post-graduation in future endeavors.



Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Tahseenullah Khan HI (M), Director General Bahria University Medical and Dental College and Chief Guest of the Ceremony, took the podium and said that the mission of BUMDC is to impart quality education and provide state-of-art educational programs for health professionals. He also mentioned that the institute encourages active participation of students in extracurricular activities along with their professional studies with dedication, comprehensive skills and logical decisions.


Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi Vice principal Dental Section, Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry and one of the pioneer faculty of BUMDC welcomed the 6th batch to one of the finest institution of the country which has made its long way forward with dedicated efforts of faculty members and strong administration. The mission of BUMDC is to impart quality education in the field of health sciences at undergraduate and post graduate levels. She discussed the BDS curriculum and emphasized on the importance of key competencies of oral health promotion, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, practicing management and informatics.



Surgeon Captain Ghulam Akbar, Deputy Commander PNS Shifa and Surgeon Commodore Syed Raza Jaffer Head of Department of Pathology PNS Shifa handed over the white coats to the newly inducted students symbolizing their new beginning as a dental professional in BUMDC.


Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Head of Periodontology Department, took the oath from the students. The students in unison recited the oath of professionalism making a commitment to henceforth maintain a professional attitude and vow to demonstrate compassion, empathy, respect and selflessness with the patient.



The ceremony concluded with sign in ceremony led by Dr. ShamaAshgar Head of Department of Operative Dentistry and her team, in which students also wrote down their comments and had a picture with their parents.


A group picture of the new batch was taken along with the entire dental faculty of Bahria University Medical and Dental College.


In the end, refreshment were arranged for the students and their parents.
