KARACHI: Recognizing the role of academic competitions as an effective way to promote learning and skill development among undergraduate students, Bahria University Dental College (BUDC) Department of Operative Dentistry hosted a ‘Presentation Competition’, to build confidence and hones their speaking abilities as part of their academic journey.
The event meant for the BUDC Final Year BDS students, held in the Conference Room, was part of their end-of-rotation activity.
The contest was held under the patronage of the Head of the Department of Operative Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Shama Asghar. Presentations were supervised by Dr. Maliha Naveed (Senior Registrar, Paediatric Dentistry) and Dr. Syed Adeel Ahmed (Senior Registrar, Operative Dentistry).
The topics covered a wide range of concepts in operative dentistry, including cavity designs, pulp protection, matrix systems, wedging techniques in restorations, and dentine bonding agents.
The presentations were judged by Dr. Ayesha Zafar (Assistant Professor, Operative Dentistry) and Dr. Saad Maroof (Registrar, Paedodontics). Judging criteria included content, layout, and presentation skills.
During the competition, the BUDC students received guidance on how to overcome their shortcomings for improved performance in future endeavors.
The winners of the competition -- Fukaihah Asad and Mamuna Rao -- were awarded certificates. The event concluded with encouraging remarks for all participants from Prof. Dr. Shama Asghar, who emphasized the importance of such activities in students’ academic growth.
