LAHORE: A one-day workshop on Dental Implants for the General Practitioner was recently held at the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR). The workshop is part of the IADSR 14th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD) curriculum.
Prof. Dr Amin-ur-Rahman, a faculty member of the prestigious University of Michigan Ann Arbor and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, facilitated the workshop.
The workshop was initiated by a brief overview of implants' statistics and historical background. Dr Amin then explained alveolar bone and its relationship to teeth and implants. In detail, he also discussed Implant materials and different types of implants, such as tissue level implants and bone level implants.
Further on, Prof. Amin taught participants the surgical procedure guidelines and the steps. He emphasized that a successful implant depends on communication and proper planning and also threw light on implant failures, including early and late failures. Implant cases such as single tooth replacement, multiple tooth replacement and cemented screw-retained prosthesis was discussed with the participants to make the session interactive.
The participants performed the hands-on session on typodonts models, and the facilitator's team solved problems faced during practice.
The session was concluded on highly positive feedback from the participants.
