LAHORE: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC), Lahore, recently organised a two-day seminar for the Dental auxiliaries on 'Occupational Health Hazards in Dentistry and their Prevention."
Prof. Dr Nazli Shujaat, Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry Department, LMDC, supervised the seminar. Dr Syeda Lalarukh Saba Shah, Assistant Professor, LMDC and Dr Mariam Fatima, Assistant Professor, LMDC, facilitated the session.
This activity aimed to improve the knowledge and attitude regarding Occupational Health Hazards and their Preventive measures to protect themselves from hazards.
The continuing dental education activity aimed to assist the Dental Auxiliary in the systematic identification of occupational hazards in dentistry and highlight protective and preventive measures that might be adopted to mitigate the risks posed to workers to as low a level as reasonably practicable. Areas, which required special attention, were radiation protection, proper storage of excess amalgam, post-exposure prophylaxis after "sharps" injury and stress management.
Prof. Aqib Sohail, Dean LMDC, applauded the efforts of the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry on organising an informative seminar for Dental auxiliaries and also distributed the certificates to Dr Lalarukh Saba and Dr Mariam Fatima.
