Oral health is as important as general health. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked by many people who take their mouth and teeth for granted. There are many reasons behind this attitude towards oral health, which include lack of affordability, lack of awareness, lack of interest or other sociocultural factors. Perhaps many lower socioeconomical class do not focus on oral health because, facing poverty they have other more pressing concerns that they prioritize. Meanwhile, when educated/upper class do not value their oral health, the reason is not financial, but might be lack of awareness or interest.
To achieve widespread promotion of oral care, HBS Dental College targeted educated social class to educate them on oral health. HBS Dental College arranged an awareness campaign at their main campus to promote oral health and educate medical/dental students of the significance of oral hygiene and highlighted the values of treatment needs.
Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain (HOD Community Dentistry Department) organized the event under the supervision of Prof. Dr Arshad Mahmood Malik, Principal HBS Dental College Islamabad. Dr Saher and Dr Ahmad Usman actively participated in that campaign to deliver lectures on oral health, and demonstrated oral hygiene tips and brushing techniques. Dr Naeema Iqbal delivered a lecture on importance of orthodontic treatment; and Dr Fatima spoke on gingival health and how its negligence could lead to Periodontitis. A question and answer session also took place.
